IMM Spring 2018 newsletter now online
The IMM programme has published its second newsletter, which is available for download here (English version or French version).
The current edition’s Country Focus is on Ghana, updating on the progress of VPA implementation, the outcome of its test shipments of “FLEGT-licensed” timber and recent trends in EU-Ghana tropical timber trade.
The newsletter also features reports on the first IMM Trade Consultation in London, including a general report summarising all presentations, short reports on each of the afternoon workshops – trends in tropical timber trade, sustainability and marketing, and public procurement – and comments from participants. There are also reports following up on two of the presentations. The first explains in more detail sustainable forest management and the PHPL system in Indonesia. In the second, David Hopkins, managing director of the UK Timber Trade Federation, explains why he supports the recognition of FLEGT-licenses in UK public procurement on equal footing with FSC and PEFC.
The Market News section discusses trends in European tropical timber imports in 2017 and looks in detail into the development of the EU’s imports from Indonesia.
The newsletter also informs about IMM’s on-going furniture sector scoping study and summarises a report by the EFI FLEGT Facility about options for China to incorporate timber legality requirements into its laws.
