IMM focuses on timber legality assurance trade impacts at World of Wood Festival

Oct 29, 2021 | News, Surveys & Project News

The FLEGT Independent Market Monitor will share findings from its work tracking timber market legality assurance development and impacts on trade flows in a special World of Wood Festival presentation.

Managed by the International Tropical Timber Organisation and funded by the EU, the IMM was set up as an integral part of the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade initiative.  Its job is to gauge market impacts and perceptions of FLEGT Voluntary Partnership Agreements and FLEGT Licensing, set in the context of wider trends in the international tropical timber sector. The outcomes – trade surveys, reports and special studies – inform the development of FLEGT.

The World of Wood Festival event will feature presentations by IMM Trade Analyst Rupert Oliver on latest tropical timber market trends and from Lead Consultant Sarah Storck on findings and recommendations from four years of IMM trade perception surveys and sectoral studies.

Consultant George White will discuss key findings from his recent report on legality assurance in international paper sector procurement.

A feedback session will give participants the chance to quiz speakers, provide feedback on IMM activities and outputs make recommendations for future monitoring of market legality regulation impacts in the timber and other forest risk commodity trades.

The IMM presentation takes place in the London Building Centre from 2-3:30 pm on 9 November. The event is hybrid, with participants  welcome to join in-person at The Building Centre in London or online. Click here to register
